The existing rear of the home and a rendering of the proposed addition.
The owners of this mid-century modern home wanted to add a new bathroom and closet to the rear bedroom to create a master suite, and expand an adjacent bedroom, adding an additional closet. Though flood regulations required the addition to be elevated, it was important that the addition be of the same character as the original home. I had ridden my bike by this home a few times in the past and really liked it so when the owner called one day to see if I would be interested in working on the addition I was really excited. See, ogling other people’s houses can sometimes pay off!
A rendering of the proposed addition and how it connects to the existing home.
In the foreground is the existing home with the elevated addition in the background. A second brick planter was added at the transition between the two.
Photos of the completed addition:
The completed addition with a few modifications from what was initially rendered.

Expanding the guest bedroom also required elevating the floor at the addition. A bed platform was created to accommodate the level change.

10-14-20 Removal of the temporary framing doesn’t seem to warrant its own photo, I think I just like this view and know it won’t last forever.
